All You Need Is

For a change, lets get the digression out the way first.
Hmmm... love has a strike through. What up wit dat? No... this isn't an anti love rant. I've been blessed to know 'true" love in many of it's forms for most of my life and by "true" I mean love who's platform has been anchored on (what I think are) it's four foundation pillars; honesty, loyalty, fidelity and trust (and the synonymous things that that wrap around those pillars).. All love relationships need to stand / grow on such a platform. Remove one of them and you've got a platform on a tripod (an inherently unstable structure).
Oh, you can still build on a tripod... and it might never fall, but its far more delicate and subject to external stresses (you cant say... dance or fight or build freely on most tripods. It cant sway a bit and return to stability most times (and for the argumentatively inclined: YES a tripod who's legs are drawn together at the top IS stable but you cant put much on the top point that's going to stay there for long).
And about "foundation pillars"... ya reeealy don't wanna mess with them... AT ALL... they need to stay anchored. When anyone of those four pillars gets removed true love is at risk, parents stop caring for their kids, kids "divorce" parents, couples break up and friends... stop being. Remove two of them, and you've got nothing.
Right then,

Love... is NOT all you need.
A while back I had the misfortune of getting involved in a little personal drama whereupon, in seeking advice from a respected (by me) source, I was told "just keep being yourself, compassionate and loving". Thing is, in that particular situation, "compassion and love" were just not gonna be enough because (taking this out of the personal now)...
In ALL currents / flows of energy, in ALL of creation, there is nothing that moves, nothing that IS, which does not have a counter flow or counterbalancing force. Nothing can exist without it's opposite existing in equal measure AND having equal importance and power.

It's why the worst outcomes are sometimes catalyzed by the best of intentions / actions and why (some, myself included, say) nothing bad happens that doesn't happen for a good reason.
While we all (at least should) endeavor to do the "right" things as we stumble along with the rest of our brethren, it's easy to forget that sometimes our strength, our will to persevere does not and can not come solely from our "light" and loving side. It's really not possible (or even appropriate) to treat all situations and act at all times with a one sided approach or intention.
If you've ever skimmed some of my other articles you know without a doubt that I'm not anti religion and I'm really PRO faith but there is something most churches, cults and philosophies of "good" fail miserably at... the understanding, accepting and direction of dark energies. Dark" energies can't be denied, ignored OR indulged. Doing so for too long rips apart the Church/Cult/"community"... or Society, that has congealed around the given "ideal" (or "ideal" person).
Sublimating them into ritual (singing, reciting, dancing or art) can help the more fragile and inexperienced cope with some of it, but it's not enough. When the purveyors of "ideals" ignore, exclude or repress that which must exist in opposition to whatever they are touting, eventually nobody of balanced integrity or strength is left to hold up the aforementioned social structures that said purveyors depend upon for their own survival because everyone is both "good" and "bad"... in equal measure... ALL of the time.
The CAREFUL examination / contemplation and if need be, confrontation of the dark energies (within and without) can teach you much about yourself and the human organism. The lessons learned therein can help you to (if you'll permit the analogy) "surf" dark waves rather then drown in them as most waves do after all break upon the shore eventually and... if you only wait for the "good" ones, you might never reach the place you need to be.
So, every once in a while, maybe... "turn off" the "light" (don't loose contact with the switch though) and see what you see. If you don't like what's there, don't turn away (for we often should look longer at the things we don't like then the things we do). See it! Make note of what, where and maybe why it is and know that... it's always there... even when the light is on.. and know that it is not more or less powerful then its opposite and chances are GOOD it, NEEDS to be there but remember, it can't be ignored or repressed or sublimated away or eventually it will rip your hand off that switch and you won't be able to choose to stay in the light.
This mini-blog was presented as the necessary "counter flow" to the one that preceded it: "Surrender" & also as another bookend to "The Hail Storm"
The Dedication:
To (kiss me) Kate, one of those "Angels" I've written about who's good company (and who's sharing a bit of her life philosophy with me) on a rainy night aligned me just enough to write this article, which was long overdue. Thanks for the umbrella Kate! And to my friend Jose, who's hitting a really rough patch now. Que DIOS te acompaņe y que lo hagas bien (may God be with you and may you do it rightly)
As for the rest of you, (including those "peeps of magnitude" that I do love so) may you safely surf whatever internal or external wave you have to, until you arrive on a safe and GOOD shore.
